Special Medical Fund
WANT TO HELP OUR
CAUSE?
Every day we receive calls from
shelters or people who need to turn a Dachshund over to us. Many of
these dogs come to us with huge medical expense's. If not for caring
animal lovers all over the world we wouldn't be able to help these
babies. We rely on donations, Sales from pet events that we attend and
any other ideas we can come up with to raise money to keep helping these
sweet creatures. If you would like to open your heart to help us
continue in our efforts to save as many of these babies as we can,

Anything is a huge help, and I know with all the wonderful people we
have supporting us that we will be able to help most, if not all of the
unwanted Doxies out there. We are also always in need of foster homes
for our babies,

FLDR established the Special Medical Fund in June 2003
in order to have funds available to pay for special medical treatments
above and beyond the standard ones. The standard ones are
spaying/neutering, updating shots, worming, and heartworm treatment
standard because of the frequency of occurrence in doxies rescued in FL.
When the fund was established but still with no money, Trixie was
brought into rescue. Trixie had a huge mammary tumor which had to be
removed. She then developed an infection at the site of one of the
injections she had been given for the surgery. This required a second
surgery to remove the necrotized flesh. The two surgeries cost almost
$700. Thanks to the generosity of FLDR members, we were able to pay for
the medical needs of Trixie. Go Here

In order to be ready for the next Trixie, several fundraising projects
are being conducted. You may have noticed some of them announced on the
web home page. One running currently is a 2004 Calendar Sale
A cookbook of matching recipes for dogs and for people is in progress.
The projected available date is late November.
The other fundraisers are ongoing. At many dog events, there will be a
Christmas table with proceeds from sales going into the Special Medical
Fund. Donations are always welcome.
