Here is the story about the 5TH annual Weiner Races April 11 2009

Fast but not furious. These racers weren't in it for the prize. They were out for a day of fun with their wiener pals, their owners and other dog lovers. Hundreds of spectators attended the event at Pensacola's Pleasant Grove Motor Sport Track to watch the races, which didn't last more than 3 to 5 seconds per group. With about 100 dogs competing in groups of five, the races took several hours.
A lot of times, there wasn't a winner because competitors decided to visit with other dogs or roll on the ground after the green flag went up.
"It's all about the fun," said Cat Warfield, a co-organizer of the event. "It's a dog-lovers gathering. The dogs have a good time, and we just love it."
Warfield hopes to collect about $2,000 at the fundraiser. Proceeds will go to Florida Dachshund Rescue Inc.
Warfield also made it clear that dogs were not harmed during the race. Critics say the races may harm the small breed.
"The only way they could get hurt is if they were jumping," Warfield said. "They are just running and having fun." What a great turn out we had. the event for 2009 made over $3000.00 for Florida Dachshund Rescue Inc. This will help a lot of rescued Doxies get vetted and find new forever homes.

Thanks go out to Kat Bear Teresa Vicky and all the other volunteers who make this event bigger and better every year
