My name is Pokey and I was just surrendered to Florida Dachshund Rescue.
I am a girl full of energy and I love to play with stuffed animals. I will tear
them up and have fun with the stuffing all over the floor. I am adjusting to my
foster home and I have fallen in love with one of my foster dads. He keeps
telling me he loves me, but not to get too attached to being here as I am going
to find a new forever home.
I really need your help. I am in a foster home with 10 smaller seniors. To tell
you the truth, it’s like being in a nursing home for dogs. Don’t get me wrong,
there is nothing the matter with nursing homes, and I too one day will be old,
but gees, for now I am full of energy and I don’t have anyone interested in
playing with me. These gals do not appreciate my enthusiasm.
I was a well taken care of girl until I was left behind when my previous owners
moved away. I was left in the home and some very nice people came to take care
of me everyday. They could not make the long drive any longer, so that’s when
they contacted FLDR to take me.
I went to see the doctor and WOW is she thorough. She gave me a full exam and
told my foster dad that she was going to give me 2 shots. She said I was in
great health and my teeth looked very good. She did say I needed to lose a
couple of pounds, but who couldn’t these days?
I do not like to be in my crate and that is something I will learn if I need
to. I will cry but if you just tell me to be quiet, I will lay down. One nice
thing about me is that I am 100% fully housebroken. That is something that not
everyone here can say, and I won’t mention any names to protect their
innocence. I will sleep with you in a big bed, or if you put a blanket in the
floor next to your bed I will sleep there. Just as long as I can see you at all
times.
I am a sweet girl and I love to sit with my foster dads in the chair and relax
when I am not playing. It takes me a while to get used to new people, but after
you pet me and I feel comfortable with you, we will be best friends. I am not
good with little children. They intimidate me and I will bite.

Foster dads note: Pokey was left alone almost all day before coming to
us. She has very bad separation anxiety. She would be a perfect fit for someone
home all day or somewhere where she will not be left alone for long periods of
time. She is a great dog and would be a fantastic companion.
