Just look at that face!!! This is Kaiser, who came into rescue after his owner
died. Kaiser is a wirehair dachshund mix who looks just like Benji.
If you need a fast walking or slow jogging partner Kaiser is the one for you!!
He is a great motivational exercise partner—he needs at least 30 minutes of
good exercise twice a day. Kaiser likes to be the center of attention, making
sure he gets his share of the affection. He is very sweet and loving to his
human companions and likes to stay close by his human----he follows me around
the house and lies down to sleep in whatever room I'm in at the time.
Kaiser was recently neutered, given his annual shots, is heartworm negative and
has gorgeous, pearly white teeth. We have a doggie door here, which Kaiser
learned immediately. He has done awesome going outside to do his business when
he needs to. He also will go potty outside when taken out on a leash. Kaiser
doesn’t hang out much outside unless we are out there doing yard work or on the
patio. He does love to play fetch---bringing the ball back to you for more,
most of the time!
Unfortunately, right now, he doesn’t make a very good first impression when
people visit. Kaiser has a fear of strangers and will do a low growl at new
people. We are working on this behavior, exposing Kaiser frequently to
strangers. He has not bitten anyone, but because of his growl people think he
is aggressive. New owners will need to continue to work with Kaiser and
instruct strangers how to approach him so he doesn’t feel threatened. Children
would need to be watched closely around him.
We have 7 other dogs here in foster care and Kaiser has gotten along with all
but one. For some reason these 2 are like brothers that just annoy and rub each
other the wrong way. We have had a few very intense fights, including biting
each other, so because of this, I am looking for new owners to be firm and
definitely the ones in charge. Kaiser would be an awesome companion dog and
would probably do well with most other dogs if they tend to be on the
submissive side---Kaiser wants to be the dominant one in the pack.
Even though Kaiser has a few issues to work out, I feel with a loving,
committed owner that is willing to spend some time molding this young guy, the
rewards of a wonderful, sweet dog will be the result.
If you would like to adopt Kaiser, please fill out an
application and put his name on it. If you'd
