Meet Bubba, AKA Mr. Bubbles. We came up with the latter because "Bubba''
just didn't seem to quite fit this boy. Bubba -- uh, Mr. Bubbles -- always
seems to have tail going. He's a happy boy and doesn't act like a senior of 10
years. He came into rescue when a breeder retired. He is affectionate,
laid-back and not barky at all.
Bubba likes chew toys -- especially anything with leather. We found that out
the hard way when he chewed two pairs of Birkenstock shoes. Yikes! But, at
least he's picky. He doesn't shred bedding or chew furniture, or anything he
can get his paws on. So, we have kept our shoes under tight security and Bubba
has kept out of trouble.
Bubba has gotten along with all people in the house and all the dogs, although
he is capable of a spat if another dog tries to take his chew toy. But he is
not food aggressive. He will take treats and food from your hands gently and
will wait his turn if you have multiple dogs. He is crate trained and will be
comfortable in your bed or his own in a crate at night.
Bubba DOES NOT like cats. I suspect if you had a dominant cat that would swat
him across the nose, he would get the message. But if you have a laid-back cat,
he will torment the poor kitty. We've seen it firsthand. So, Bubba CANNOT go to
a home with cats. Bubba also likes to mark a bit. You have to remind him to go
outside to do his business. This is probably due to his years as a breeder
doxie. Frankly, we thought this would be a major problem when he came into
rescue, but he will go outside. He will do better with someone who is home a
good part of the day to take him out regularly. A family that is gone 9 to 5
would not be in his best interest -- not because he couldn't adopt but it might
be tougher to eliminate all the accidents. He is just now getting used to our
doggie door.
He loves to hunt critters in the back yard. We would like for him to go to a
home without a pool because he cannot swim and, in fact, seems oblivious to its
dangers, especially if he spots a critter on the pool deck.
I don't want to overstate Bubba's marking, because I've seen far worse. I guess
it's a matter of perspective. He's truly a neat little dog. If you'd like more
