We have many older dachshunds in need of Forever Homes before you pass them by please read this

These are Desiree Webber's thoughtful and original responses to typical reactions to adopting an older pet

I don't want an old dog"
My response: Oh, I'm sorry..........I don't have any dogs that won't get old.

"I want a young dog so I can train it"
My response: Oh, you mean you haven't learned anything new since becoming an adult?

"I don't want a dog that will die"
My response: Oh, I'm sorry..........I don't have any dogs that won't die.

"I just couldn't bear to get attached to a dog and then have it die"
My response: You mean you haven't made any new friends since kindergarten and you don't ever plan on making any other new ones for fear they will die?

And my very favorites when talking to a senior person about adoption:
* We don't believe in age discrimination..........we hope you don't either.
* We do not believe in age discrimination......we do however believe in age appropriate adoptions.

Please as you look at the dogs we have available for adoption please consider loving an older Doxie

You will always receive a reply that I  received your application.
If you do not get an answer that I have received your application in a few days, Please email CDore777@aol.com directly and I will be able to help you.

Please read before submitting an application

Florida Dachshund Rescue has a long waiting list of approved homes seeking
rescue dachshunds. We want everyone to experience the love a rescue doxie
will bring, but please note that an adoption could take a few months. While
we can usually process your application in a couple of weeks, we might not
have a dog right away that will fit into your home.
We are a small group and currently care for 20-25 dogs, yet we've received
overwhelming response to our adoption program. In essence, the demand far
outstrips the supply, which is even more evident with young dogs. Puppies
and young adults will draw many applications. Your chances of success will
be greater with a little older dog. Remember, dachshunds are a long-lived
breed -- many living to 15-17 years if properly maintained.

Bubba

Meet Bubba, AKA Mr. Bubbles. We came up with the latter because "Bubba'' just didn't seem to quite fit this boy. Bubba -- uh, Mr. Bubbles -- always seems to have tail going. He's a happy boy

Chili and Chopper

Meet the sweetest senior odd couple, Chili and Chopper. Chili and Chopper are a bonded pair that came to my home in rescue after their former owner dropped them off at an animal shelter to be put down. Owners were moving and decided rather than take this old retired couple with them they would put them down.

Winston

Hi! My name is Winston, aka "Happy Feet" and "Wet Spot". I am the coolest guy on 4 legs! I hope you'll read all about me in my profile and consider me for your family.

Bonnie and Clyde

Hi, we are Bonnie and Clyde. I am Bonnie, the cute little mini double dapple and the handsome dude next to me is Clyde the black and tan standard. Yes I know we both need to lose a pound or two (who doesn’t these days) but we are working on it. We are a bonded pair so we must go to our forever home together.

Kaiser

Just look at that face!!! This is Kaiser, who came into rescue after his owner died. Kaiser is a wirehair dachshund mix who looks just like Benji. Although, initially reserved when meeting strangers, he warms up within minutes and will be in your face giving kisses. Kaiser likes to be the center of attention, making sure he gets his share of the affection.

Rosie and Sunshine

Rosie and Sunshine (Sunny) are a bonded pair who must be adopted together. They were born a few weeks apart and have always been together. They came to rescue because their owner had to move to a place that does not allow pets.

Newman

Woo Hoo!!! I’m here with all these wieners just like I belong to the Wiener Society! High five everybody! I just LOVE to give high fives! I also love to give kisses, play fetch, snuggle under the covers and just about anything else that means I will get attention from someone. I can chase squirrels for you, too, if you want – just as long as I don’t have to bring one back, I’ve never actually caught one but I’ve only been trying for 4 years…

Little Man

Hi my name is Little Man, I am a red/dapple mini doxie that is looking for a good home. I am a great guy is what I hear from my foster mom and dad. I have long hair and I am not at all a runner. I like to stay by the ones that love me.

Abbe and Tilly

Abbe and Tilly are a bonded pair, they are beautiful, sweet and SMART as can be. You can tell their former owner loved them. They came into rescue after their owner went into a nursing home.

Daisy and Lilly

Do you have a yard? Do you like to go for walks? Do you wanna PLAY? Look no further...my name is Daisy and this black and tan gal next to me is my sister Lilly! We are 8 months old and ready to play, have fun and find our forever home! Could your home be our forever home?

Pebbles

Are you looking for a walking companion? Well look no further, because I'm your girl! I know it doesn't look like it, but I love taking long walks with my foster mom. In fact, we go twice a day! Well foster mom calls them walks, they're actually jogs for me, and I love every minute

Morgan

Hi, I'm Morgan and I'm the happiest, most loving doxie that you'll ever meet! My tail never seems to stop wagging. And I love everyone and everything! In fact I just wander around the house and yard, looking at things and making "I love you" sounds. Humans (grown up or kids) are the best thing ever! If I had my way, I would always be in my favorite place in the world – someone's lap. I love to snuggle and give kisses.

Precious

Hi I'm Precious and I'm a bit shy till i get to know you. My previous owners were kinda mean to me so I have to make sure your nice before I get close to you. I love other dogs and I'm potty trained

Freckles

HI!!! My name is Freckles! I just came to this foster home a couple days ago & boy is it fun!! SOOOO much better than that yucky place I was at with only cement floors and tons of other dogs barking ALL the time. A guy just couldn't get any rest there, not that I need any!!! Here I have a comfy bed, toys, really good food and 7 other dogs to PLAY with

Rosey

We can't believe someone didn't want this beautiful, young girl because she wanted to cuddle too much!!!! Rosey is a joy to have around and will make someone extremely happy to have found her! She would do well with another dog that enjoys playing-
